City Of Poughkeepsie Installs Electric Car Charging Stations

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – As part of a broader green initiative, the City of Poughkeepsie has installed four electric car charging stations available for public use. According to a spokesman, each machine can charge two cars at a time.

Two machines are located at the Financial Plaza Parking Deck at 41 Civic Center Plaza; the other two are at the Duro Municipal Parking Lot at 197 Main St. The city anticipates adding more stations in 2020.

“The city is investing — and will continue to invest — in initiatives that are environmentally friendly and reduce the city’s carbon footprint,” said City Administrator Marc Nelson.

The City of Poughkeepsie has adopted New York State’s Climate Smart Communities pledge and will continue to promote clean, renewable energy usage. More than 250 New York communities have partnered with state government on this effort. The program aims to increase energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions as part of a broader energy strategy.

The charging stations were made possible, in part, through grant support from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority.

The stations will be available for use 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The stations cost $1.50 per charging hour, and all payments will be handled by the EV charging station manufacturer ChargePoint. The city will receive 90 percent of the amount charged. Apex Solar Power of New Windsor installed the machines.
